چکیده
Finding efficient and less expensive techniques for different aspects of culvert inspection is in great demand. This study assesses the potential infrared thermography (IRT) to detect presence cavities soil around a culvert, specifically adjacent pipe galvanized culverts. To identify cavities, we analyze thermograms, generated via long pulse thermography, using absolute thermal contrast, principal components statistical approach along with combination pre- post-processing algorithms. Using several experiments, evaluate performance IRT accomplishing given task. Empirical results show promising future application this inspection. The size location are among that can be extracted from analyzing thermograms. key finding research proposed provide useful information about certain type problem which may indicate early stage cavity formation. Becoming aware process earlier stages will certainly help prevent any costly incidents later.

Infrared thermography for high-temperature pressure pipe
High-temperature pressure pipelines are extensively used in petrochemical plant and power stations. Severe pits or wall loss defects can be internally produced after a certain period of time due to media corrosion and cavitation erosion. These defects finally lead to leakage of the pipes. In order to search for a good non-destructive method for these defects, a large pipe testing installation w...
متن کاملDefect Detection within a Pipe Using Ultrasound Excited Thermography
Thermal wave infrared imaging for detecting defects in a material has been carried out with high-power ultrasonic sources. An early example of this was the work by Mignogna et al, who utilized a high-power ultrasonic heating of a material, coupled with an imaging by means of an infrared (IR) camera [1]. The time scale for their IR images was several seconds after the application of an ultrasoni...
متن کاملComparative Experimental Study and FE Analysis of Corrugated Steel Pipe Culverts with Different Stiffness
This paper describes comparative experiment on corrugated steel pipe culverts with different stiffness. The two culverts both with 1.2m span and 4m backfill height but with different corrugation pattern and plate thickness were constructed side by side. Displacement, strain and soil pressure at critical points were tested during construction. Two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) models were...
متن کاملDetection of Subsurface Defects using Active Infrared Thermography
Active infrared thermography is a widely used technique in the field of nondestructive testing. The subsurface defects produce non-uniform heat dissipation and this phenomenon is captured by an infrared camera. The phase image gives a prominent description of the defects which are not visible in the captured image sequence. The effect of non-uniform heating and the variation in surface emissivi...
متن کاملDetection of rolling bearing degradation using infrared thermography
Our study deals with the quantification of the energy dissipated by a defect of spalling on the outside ring of a rolling bearing. A previous work showed a correlation between the thermal heating and the vibratory level generated by the progressive appearance of the defect. First, we propose a numerical model of the heat transfers In a second time, we developed an experimental setup. The result...
